SHANTH GOONEWARDENE, MD

Associate Section Chief, Gastrointestinal Pathology.

Dr. Goonewardene received his MD from Jefferson Medical College. He completed his pathology residency at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and a Fellowship in Cytopathology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. He is certified by the American Board of Pathology in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology with added board certification in Cytopathology. Dr. Goonewardene serves as Director of the Anatomic Pathology Quality Assurance Committee at Lehigh Valley Hospital and Health Network. His research and publications focus on gastrointestinal pathology, and he is currently investigating the prognostic importance of neuroendocrine differentiation in colorectal adenocarcinomas.
