Breast Pathology
The HNL Breast Pathology Division works closely with our clinical colleagues to ensure optimal patient care and is a critical part of our overall plan for the early diagnosis and treatment of breast disease. Because of our collaborative relationships with clinical specialists in the treatment of breast disease, we can provide expert diagnoses as well as guidance on management.
Experience & Expertise
In addition to reviewing core biopsies, excisional biopsies and resections, our staff employs a diverse range of testing important for initial diagnosis, staging, sentinel lymph node evaluation and prediction of treatment response. Testing includes immunostains for estrogen and progesterone receptors on both ductal carcinoma in situ and invasive breast cancers. Evaluation of Her-2/neu by immunohistochemistry (IHC) and fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) are also available. As new molecular tests for breast cancer are developed, we facilitate easy access to those assays.
Timely Results
Our board certified pathologists commonly report core biopsies within 24-48 hours, alleviating the anxiety of long turn around times.
