Histocompatibility

Health Network Laboratories' Center for Anatomic Pathology's Histocompatibility Division is in charge of the immunologic evaluation of transplant candidates and recipients.

This evaluation consists of HLA class I and class II typing of transplant donor and recipients as well as identification of anti-HLA class I and class II antibodies in patients' circulation. Assays, based on molecular, serologic, flow cytometry and biochemistry technology are used in this process detection.

The Division assists transplant physicians to monitor and treat patients in order to avoid antibody-mediated rejection of organ allografts.

HNL's Division of Histocompatibility is staffed by a board certified pathologist and accredited technicians who are expert in the area of Histocompatible Tissue Typing. HLA typing supports solid organ transplantation, matching graft donors to recipients and permits matching organ donors to recipients for organ transplantation (including kidney and pancreas).
